Chief Wapello Memorial Park

The Park is located Southeast of Agency Iowa at the site of the 1842 Treaty that ceded the last of the Sac and Fox Tribes' Iowa holdings to the US Government. The Site includes the Grave of Chief Wapello and Indian Agency Joseph Street as well as members of the Street Family.  There was a Memorial erected in 1946 by the "Daughters of the American Revolution" marking the site of the Agency House built by Street and a memorial donated by the First Methodist Church of Agency to commemorate the 1838 first Christian Service in interior Iowa as well as a display of Historic Information.  The Park was added to the National Park Service's National Registry of Historic Places in 1975.  It is maintained by volunteers of the Chief Wapello Memorial Park Association.  Helping hands are welcome.
